Upcoming Conference: “Situated Conservation” (23-25 January 2025, Senegal)

"Situated Conservation" Conference – January 2025, Senegal

This January, our team is proud to host "Situated Conservation", a conference that rethinks the way we approach conservation practices. Taking place from January 23–25, 2025, at the CRDS (Centre de Recherche et de Documentation du Sénégal) in Saint-Louis, Senegal, the event is organized in collaboration with Gaston Berger University (Dakar/Saint-Louis) and UNESCO Senegal.

Inspired by Donna Haraway’s concept of situated knowledge, the term situated conservation reflects our belief that conservation is always contextual—shaped by the unique ecological, cultural, and knowledge systems of its environment. There is no single, universal method of conservation; instead, practices are deeply rooted in the places and communities where they unfold.

As hosts, we are excited to bring together leading voices from across Africa and beyond to explore these themes and foster rich dialogue. This conference represents not just a meeting of minds but a celebration of diverse conservation perspectives that inspire adaptive, locally grounded approaches.

Stay tuned as we share more details and updates from Saint-Louis. We look forward to making this a truly impactful event!
