“Contested Conservation” – Read new issue of Museums & Social Issues!

New Special Issue of Museums & Social Issues Journal, October 2024.

We are excited to announce the publication of a special issue of the Museum & Social Issues journal titled “Contested Conservation”, co-edited by Noémie Étienne and Lotte Arndt.

Starting off with the editorial Transforming Conservation: Challenging Hegemonic Models, Broadening the Realm of the Concerned, Changing Practices, this issue delves into critical and transformative approaches to museum conservation.

It features contributions from museum professionals and conservators, offering fresh perspectives on how conservation practices can be reimagined. This special issue complements the recently published On the Threshold of Conservation, part of the online journal Troubles dans les collections, which explores similar themes of rethinking conservation practices through the lenses of reversals, restlessness, and residues.
