In Conversation with Our Guests from Mexico: A Discussion on the Penacho Replica
On Tuesday, 12 November, doctoral students from the Chair of Cultural Heritage, together with their supervisor Noémie Etienne, had the opportunity to engage in an enriching discussion with community artist Carlos Barrera Reyes, lecturer at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Facultad de Artes y Diseño (UNAM-FAD), and María Olvido Moreno Guzmán, curator at Museo Nacional de Antropología, Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (MNA-INAH).
Currently a replica of a Colonial featherinsignia from Mexico is made by the team in close collaboration with the Weltmuseum Wien. The conversation focused on the replica of the iconic penacho on display at the MNA. The students posed a range of insightful questions covering technical, economic, social, and cultural aspects related to the replica, offering a unique chance to gain deeper insight into this complex and fascinating project.
We are hopeful that this moment of reflection will continue once the replica is completed, sparking further discussions. We wish our guests a safe and successful return to Mexico and look forward to future opportunities for collaboration.
