Anna-Marie Kroupová
UNIVERSITY ASSISTANT (PRE-DOC) FOR CULTURAL HERITAGE STUDIES | University of Vienna
In her PhD project, supervised by Prof. Noémie Étienne, Anna-Marie Kroupová examines the activities, artistic production, and experiences of art students from decolonized countries who studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts under cultural agreements after 1968. By critically employing a transcultural framework and conceptualizing the Academy as a “contact zone,” she aims to denationalize Czech art historiography and diversify it with a range of voices. Anna-Marie received her MA from the University of Vienna in 2021, earning the Sir Ernst Gombrich Talent Award for the best MA thesis, in which she explored the relationship between Czech modernist art and nationalism around 1900 using the example of the Mánes Artists’ Association: "Hurrah, we are among the Lords now!" : exhibition strategies behind the rise of the Mánes artists' association (1898-1907). In addition, she is a Research Associate at the Belvedere, Vienna, and co-founder and editor of the peer-reviewed Belvedere Research Journal.
